Eventually a sighting of land today, I mean its been just over a day without land but it seemed longer. It was still mostly a sea day which mean taking in a few more lectures including one on Penguins but the scenery was beginning to get interesting as we saw our first icebergs which were pretty awesome.
The main attraction for today though was elephant island where Shackleton (famous Antarctic explorer) and his crew were stranded in 1916. The seas were quite rough around the area which meant we were unfortunately unable to do a landing but we did get to do a Zodiac cruise around the area (Note: Zodiac boats are smaller boats used for Antarctic cruising and landings). The cruise gave you a chance to get of the ship for an hour and getting a closer look at the amazing rock formations that made up elephant island. There was also a chance to see the first penguins of the trip with a colony of Adele, Chinstrap and Macaroni penguins on display. Trying to get a good picture in the choppy seas was a bit more of struggle.
The highlight of my evening was my iPad dying, I had a bottle of water in my backpack and it leaked and water and an iPad do not work. This means that I now have absolutely no technology for the rest of my trip other than my digital camera!
